LiveJournal Major Notes: Notification fix, Snowflake cookie avalanche, LJLimerick, holiday vgifts!

Tweaks and enhancements

  • As a number of you reported, a service interruption impaired sending and receiving notifications for a couple of days. This was due to an avalanche of snowflake cookies. We've removed the free snowflake cookie and unclogged the pipeline. Timely notifications should resume shortly. Please note that there's a backlog in our queues, so you'll be getting earlier notifications first. For more details, check out this post at [info]lj_maintenance.
  • In anticipation of the new year, we've embarked on a self-improvement kick to boost our backend (pun semi-intended). This will allow us to offer you a holiday promotion in the next few weeks (yes, we're listening and working very hard to make it happen). We sincerely appreciate your continued patience and support.

Holiday vgifts are here!

We've added some fantastic new vgifts to help you spread holiday cheer. We also hope you'll honor AIDS Awareness Month by purchasing virtual red ribbons. Priced at $2.99, we'll donate 100 percent of gross proceeds to IAVI.org (the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative) to support the development and global distribution of an affordable HIV vaccine.

Introducing: LJLimericks

We cordially here do invite you
To craft a fine limerick. Might you?
Each week, a new theme,
Then a poll, that's our dream
Winner posted on news to delight you!

In honor of all the brilliant writers on LiveJournal, we've created a brand new community: [info]ljlimericks! Each week, we'll enter a handful of limericks into a poll (which we'll tuck snugly under an LJ-Cut). The winning poem will be published in the following newsletter. In addition, the author will receive a virtual blue ribbon! If you have the time, come drop us a rhyme. Please keep the "Nantucket" stuff on the downlow, since this is a youth-friendly community. Our first prompt is: Insomnia in winter.

Photos of the week

We're back with more incredible images from our global photography community. Congratulations to [info]sempre_marseeya, who has been awarded a virtual blue ribbon as the winner of our second [info]lj_photophile poll.

We hate to squelch your creativity, but, as a courtesy to other users, please post only one photo at a time and keep the main photo no larger than 350x350 (so images display properly via mobile and on friends pages). You can link to a larger image and/or post photos under a cut. Just so you know, we select photos for the poll blindly, based on user comments and staff feedback. Please continue to vote, comment, and, of course, enjoy. You can check out the week in pictures and view more awesome user content after the jump!

Thursdaily

Business as Usual

Orders are worked on, but not all of them got out. I am delivering several today, the rest I will finish tonight... along with the dozenish new ones that came in today and yesterday. Argh! Stop ordering already! (Not really...)

Some Torn World administration caught up on, and my inbox still at manageable levels.

Art and Authoring

I sat down and wrote last night, coughing up a 1300 word story that I quite like. Here's a clip:

Don't use the data, she'd been warned by the senior faculty. He's too important to lose - a genius! They wanted her to sweet talk him, to use motherly charms to persuade him to maintain at least a face of respectability until they could rush him through graduation and set him loose on real research. They assumed she had motherly charms, simply because she was a woman.

Home and Health

House still standing. Health still good.

Planning

Too many invitations for this weekend - I have to figure out what I can and want to do. I have many projects to work on. Never bored, am I.

Fairy Cottage Online Shop

First of all, thank you to all my visitors I've had during my first year of my online shop! It started last year October 25th of 2008. Today as I went to see my statistics, I've had 15 642 unique visits altogether during this year. Thank you all for coming!

A little reminder, anyone who plans to order something for X-mas, make sure you do it soon! Since I can't personally guarantee anything when it comes to the Finnish post office and holiday traffic, I suggest you get your orders in before next tuesday, 15th of December!

In the meantime, enjoy this festive season and all the pretty lights, cookies and mulled wine (or Glögi as we finns like to call it)!

I'm late for a very important date!

Time to finish up a commission today! I have two left, and I'd like to see them out the door before 2010 hits! Hurry, hurry, hurry!!

Golden Cats

I still need to do my Christmas shopping. I've gotten a couple of things bought, but I have lots more to do. And it's been REALLY cold here, and still is, but we haven't had any snow. I should be grateful that we also haven't had any freezing rain! Well, actually it DID snow the other day, but it was so warm the fragile little snowflakes melted away almost before they ever hit the ground, and now that it finally is cold enough for snow, all we have is clear skies.
But anyway, the real reason I'm writing this entry is I wanted to upload some more pictures of my cats. (And my sister's cat.)

First up is my youngest kitty, Butterscotch, aka Butterscotch Pudding. Yeah, its a silly name, I know :P

And this beauty is Taffy, aka Taffy Princess, she is the sister to Butterscotch and for some neat symmetry is owned by my sister. And for more useless information my cat Cassira's brother is owned by my other sister Jan-Annette.
But I digress, so now, I think I'm going to wander down to the kitchen and see if there is anything to eat....
'night!

Jasmine's New ORIGINAL "Alice in a Da Vinci Portrait" Painting & Prints!

Hi everyone!

I have a brand new BEAUTIFUL original painting today - a new Alice piece called "Alice in a Da Vinci Portrait". It is SO cool And it's on eBay for just ONE PENNY now! In addition, I have prints available right away! Not only that, you can even choose your own custom framing & matting, or even BIG print sizes up to 68"x52" in size (BIG prints start at just $13.80). This is a GORGEOUS painting!

All right, the new original painting! This is the second in my sub-series called "Alice in Other Lands" which are paintings featuring Alice in a variety of unusual circumstances, often inspired by art history. Here we have my Alice in a portrait themed reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci. You can see many da Vinci references in this painting - the Mona Lisa, Lady with an Ermine, landscape elements, Madonna of the Rocks, etc.. Alice is looking very mysterious with her Mona Lisa smile, and that Cheshire Cat of mine looks a bit too wily to sit for a portrait.... This is a painting celebrating my loves of Alice in Wonderland and renaissance art - no reason why the two shouldn't go together! I've always thought that Alice's adventures should continue into many other bizarre tales, and you can expect to see more from me in the future. My own lowbrow big eyed take da Vinci's work - a celebration of my love for Art History in general as well. This one is BIG - 24" high by 18" wide -- and it's all READY TO HANG too, Matt has already put the hanger on the back. This ORIGINAL acrylic painting is up on eBay starting at just ONE PENNY for a 7-day auction ending the evening of Wednesday, December 16th at 7:27 PM Central Time, and you can see her below:

"Alice in a Da Vinci Portrait" 18"x24" ORIGINAL PAINTING!

And as always, to see all of my other currently available original paintings, click below - I have some BEAUTIFUL originals up right now at great prices:

All Jasmine's Currently Available Original Paintings

Now, as I promised - trying something new - I'm making the "Alice in a Da Vinci Portrait" prints available NOW. If the original isn't in your budget, grab one of these! These are BIG prints - starting at just $13.80 - and guess what? You can add on custom mats, frames, glass, etc. however you want it. And you can choose the paper type - glossy, matte, canvas, poster, whatever. Small sizes are available as well as HUGE sizes - up to 68"x52" size (that is taller than I am!) Just use the options in the upper right hand corner of this page to choose the size you'd like - leave it plain as a poster print or add framing options. No need to wait any more!!

!

"Alice in a Da Vinci Portrait" PRINTS are HERE!

Enjoy!

Until next time...

Wednesdaily

Business as usual

Orders are spooling off the printer and stacking up by the door now - I am on-call for work today! Woo!

I have also started a new mailing list just for ACEO/art card stuff and deleted the drawings-only list. (Haven't done a drawing in... how long??) http://ellenmilliongraphics.com/fantasyart/mlist.php

Finishing Mere's coloring book edits, and I made some teeny progress on the EMG-Zine anthology already, too.

Most astonishing of all, my inbox is down to 15. 15!! I do not think I have been down to 15 in more than a year and a half. Maybe longer. There were some OLD OLD messages in there. *shame*

Doing some planning over at Torn World. I will oh-so-subtly warn you now that there will be extra perks for folks who join before January. In case you've been sort of thinking about it.

Art and Authoring

Here! Some art!

Home and Health

Studio is still in in-between phases, but improving. I may spend a while today sorting art supplies.

Planning

My list is outrageous. You don't want to know.

just some update

I realized I haven't posted for a while .. mostly because there isn't so much exciting to tell. The time before Christmas is always busy with shopping, social events and last minute commissions (not so many this time, oh well). I tend to participate in some of the sweepstakes floating around the net but never win anything and try to be a nicer person which usually doesn't work out either. (not that I'm so very horrible but its hard to stay calm and friendly in the cold and rush hour shopping)

The year leaves me pretty much broke .. so to even out my sparse christmas gifts I did my own christmas card at least - I just hope I'll get the prints in time..

I have to admit that christmas shopping for the kids in the family is really fun, though ;D

I hope all of you have a good time ..
